About Jim

Career Profile

Jim is passionate about bridging employee performance, individuality, and organizational success.  Starting out as a behavioral health clinician, Jim learned to work with clients to identify, address, and help solve their challenges.

From there, Jim pivoted to the University of Nebraska to work at the flagship campus in Lincoln. After spending a few years as an EAP counselor, he transitioned to helping the HR department manage employee relations.

These experiences set him up for success as he began an almost two-decade assignment to help the University’s Health Center by managing their HR and operations processes. With an annual budget of over $10 million, Jim supported the clinic in order to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Additionally, Jim stepped up to serve the University as an acting director and assistant vice chancellor across multiple departments, helping him hone his skills in educational administration.

After two and a half decades with the University, Jim entered the corporate world. As a senior vice president within the insurance industry, Jim was able to incorporate his healthcare and HR management skills to lead a client-focused account management team.

Finally, Jim knew he wanted to teach and impart the lessons he learned over his successful career. That’s why he started teaching current and future generations of businessmen and businesswomen about how to be the best possible managers and leaders.  He’s partnered with six different business schools to teach a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and professional courses including human resource management, business ethics, leadership, organizational behavior and change, the employee experience, and health care management and policy.

Jim’s unique blend of education and career experiences allows him to offer valuable instruction and consultation services through humaneresources.llc.

“Jim brought true collaboration to my experience as an insurance professional. While finding solutions to client needs was priority, I learned from Jim the importance of the pause in partnership. This allowed us the opportunity to thoughtfully examine possible outcomes, where I could lend my expertise as the client's service lead. Then with Jim’s leadership, we would tailor-make recommendations and solutions that were sensitive to the client’s environment and membership needs.”

“I am looking forward to my next course facilitated by Jim. During the last course I attended, he inspired my interest in the course content with his engaging manner and conversational teaching style, engaging all participants and their experiences. Human resource management is never boring and it is great to learn from others' experiences and challenges. Jim has also been a great resource outside of the classroom when I have needed clarification or guidance on a situation I have never experienced before.”
